my stock 87 1.8 16v GTI ran a 16.72, on crappy tires, my second time out, lousy shifting, plus being like 5 miles above sea-level. and I was running rich. It can do better. low 16's I would think.
it's a good idea to go to the track stock to get a baseline time to work from. Thats what I did.

16.2, stock 16v 2.0 in 4dr golf. On that run i spun through 1st and 2nd, bogged 3rd.
Came back to smoke a gangsta in his integra.

On a better run, I took on a modded civic si, and showed him the good ol' taillights.

[email protected] has been my best time so far. Mods are exhaust, chip, K&N drop-in and a gutted cat. Also had my rear and passenger seats and kneebar/console out. 15" rims and launched at about 2200RPM.

The first time out is always a funny one. My first run was a 17.2. I think I launched at 5000rpm and spun all of 1st gear. after a few runs, you'll get the hang of it.

I ran 16.3 /86 mph at Santa Pod here in the UK (stock 1800 KR 16v), I had the 17" wheels then, the car *feels* quicker now with the 15" ATS cups with 195/45x15
I'm organising a club Gti forum meet http://clubgti.sequence.co.uk/forum/ in March at the 'pod so I'll see what difference the smaller wheels make.
