Anyone with H&R sports and autotech sway bars?

400 Views 7 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  A3Jetta
I'm thinking about putting at least a rear sway bar on my car, and maybe a front sway bar too.
Anyone have H&R sports (1.5" drop) and an autotech sway bar setup? (either front, rear or both)? Just wondering your thoughts of the setup and if it's a good way to go.

I have Koni Yellows, H&R sports and an Autotech 28mm rear swaybar on my A3 Jetta 2.0. The setup is great. Out of winter mode (full soft on the konis for me) I have my rears set almost full stiff and the fronts about half way. With the 28mm rear swaybar, I certainly do not have anymore of that dreaded understeer. Sure a VR6 is heavier up front but you should still notice a drastic increase in handling. I would recommend a good set of struts/shocks as you are doing the springs

Yeah, I've already got Bilsteins + H&R sports, but want to reduce body roll without having to go lower or by replacing the shocks.
So 28mm is the way to go here? I've seen 25mm rear bars as well. Is it worth doing front and rear? I guess I should note this is a daily driver and I never take it to the track or autox it.

My car is my daily driver as well. A rear swaybar will reduce body roll and so will a front swaybar. However, a rear swaybar upgrade alone will reduce understeering tendancies and a front swaybar upgrade will bring understeer back to some degree. I do not intend to add a front swaybar but that's just me

My car is also daily driven and driven year round. I agree with bajan01 on this once again. (Damn, he keeps beating me to the post

If a front sway bar re-introduces understeer, what is the point of it at all if we are trying to reduce understeer?
It sounds like a rear sway bar is the way to go here, but the question now is whether it should be 25mm or 28mm.. In this case, is bigger better?

The front sway bar helps reduce body roll, but it also stiffens the front suspension causing the extra oversteer.
Basic suspension lesson.
To increase grip on one end of the car, stiffen the opposite end. If the car understeers, you stiffen the rear (or soften the front). If the car oversteers, you stiffen the front (or soften the rear).
You can makes these changes a number of ways, springs, adjustable shocks/struts, sway bars, or tire pressure.
I have found the settings that I like for daily driving, and fine tune the car with tire pressures when I go autocrossing.
