Re: Apparently Ford Explorer Mishaps Are Merely Operator Error (Snowdog)

I've done a lot of research about the 5000 brouhaha. There are interesting parallels:
1) The 5000 had been an "aspirational" import, the car people moved to after driving Cutlass Supremes (the pre-Yuppie upscale car of choice) for years.
2) What the 5000 also has is closer pedal spacing, which is a far change from what many Audi buyers were used to. Hence - some pedal misapplications.
The Explorer follows a similar track. Here is the first SUV that many people purchased - it was the first affordable one that was almost as refined as a car. SUVs, as a class, drive differently than passenger cars, and combined with tires that go POOF....
Just remember - for better or worse, products need to be designed to forgive a decent amount of foreseeable operator error....
