Apr Stage I in Winter driving.

Ok so I'm finally getting around to looking at chipping my 01-1.8T Jetta. What I want to know is what about driving in the winter. I do alot of skiing and end up driving a fair bit in the snow / ice / winter conditions.
How much harder is it to control the car from those of you that have had experience both pre & post chip?!
Thanks for any feedback.

Re: Apr Stage I in Winter driving. (BC1.8T)

I have the GIAC chip, which is widely considered the most "touchy" on the throttle, and I have had no problem. I used to live in MA (not VA) and have driven it in the snow chipped. Not a big deal, use your common sense and leave the lead foot at home.

I do not usually drive my car in the snow, but a few weeks back i got caught by surprise while travelling, i put my APR chip in valet mode (no boost and limited to 4krpm) it was great! No worries. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

A chip is fine in the winter. It's not like if you touch the gas and your chipped your car will go shooting off the road into the ditch...
Just drive carefully and use common sense with speeds and power.

Looks like a good feature if you loan it to a 16 year-old.

It takes a bit more finesse because you'll want to mash the throttle and enjoy the power. However, the ASR and EDL work nicely and help aid you a great amount. I've found that my wife's Golf 1.8T (stock) drives just as well as my 13-second APR Stage 2 car does!
Then again, I avoid driving my car in the winter if I can to keep the salt off it.. but still, its VERY streetable... and what is even more crazy is that I've driven a Stage 3 Jetta from APR - and that would drive even BETTER in the snow, as the boost comes on even more progressively and linear!

Get stock mode as well, and switch to it on the fly in bad weather thats what I do in the rain.

The FlipSwitch is makes driving in the snow, rain or ice much easier with the APR chip.
I've had it since November and wouldn't do without the FlipSwitch. Costs a little more, but worth it!
