Re: Are there 6 speed transmisions for Corrados? (hermdawgSLC)
hermdawgSLC-
As far as I know, there are only a few out there for our trannies (02A). Here's what I've been able to find to date:
1) Quaife
2) Kraftswerk
3) Stealthracing(UK)
I've heard nothing but great things about the quaife, but whether it's worth the $$$ is debatable.
Hope this helps.
Re: Are there 6 speed transmisions for Corrados? (NVmyVW)
Hey, VW Motorsport makes one, also, I believe that it doesnt "give" you another gear... I think it is about the same as a 5 speed ( total final drive wise) but the gears are spaced a lot differently
Re: Are there 6 speed transmisions for Corrados? (KarmannSLC)
that looks pretty nice, how much do they run, i need a 2nd or 3rd job...
but it would be real nice for us G60 folks, we would have alot less lag waiting for the SC to build up the boost, we would stay in our boost power band more witht the smaller gears right??? or we would get to it alot quicker??

What's their website? I like the way that sounds. My main goal is to get shorter gears for when I turbocharge my car. I want my car to reach boost faster.
Re: Are there 6 speed transmisions for Corrados? (VW1990CORRADO)
You're correct about the longer gears with a turbo. My car has the corrado tranny, obviously, which has a shorter final drive. I run thru my gears so quick. I really really need the final drive of a GTI or Jetta. I can just tell my car can pull so much longer in each gear. Plus it would cut down on the ratio and mean a little less wheel spin, altough not too much, and my car would keep pulling in 5th. I've topped out at 140ish, and got there damn quick, but only due to gearing. I could tell my car wanted to just keep on pullin but it just could'nt.

hermdawgSLC:
If you're planning to go turbo, both VW1990Corrado and RaddoVR6-T are absolutley correct. You definitely want longer gears to maintain high exhaust flow/turbo spool, i.e shorter gears = less boost. Now, there are a couple options I can think of if you're looking to change trannys.
1) Change to a CCM gear box (CDM is stock) w/ the 3.389 ring/pinion. Although first gear is a bit low (but good for traction w/ boost @ high rpm's), this will allow you to hold 3rd much longer and have faster 1/4 mile ET's. Acceleration (0 - 60), however, will be a bit compromised. I've heard you can also get to 155 to 160 mph with the CCM. If you do this, you should definitely go with a lightened flywheel and ATB differential.
2) Switch out to a 02J tranny (3.389 r/p) - longer 1st and 3rd gears than a 02A. These are factory in early mk4's.
If I can find some #'s to compare, I'll post 'em.
Hope this helps.
B(C)orrado: Yes, VWMS definitley came out with a 6-speed kit...how could I forget. If you know where to find one, let me know!!!
