I posted this is in the MKIV forum, but didnt get a good responce. I will try here
Is there a differance in gear ratio's between the MKIII and the MKIV Vr6? It seems that I redline quicker in the MKIV. Is it just me, is it just that the newer car is that much faster? TIA

Re: Are there differant gear ratio's in the MK4's?? (-=VdubGuY=-)

the trannies are different between the mk3 and mk4. the mk3 is sportier, and shifts better than the new one. the mk4s have different ratios for the 1.8ts and the VR6s. third in a VR6 is something you don't forget no matter what tranny you got.

The MK4s have a shorter 1st, 2nd, and 3rd than the Mk3s. Fouth is shorter too, but only slightly. 5th and final drive is the same.
Gear Mk3 Mk4
1st 3.30 3.62
2nd 1.94 2.07
3rd 1.31 1.47
4th 1.03 1.04
5th 0.84 0.84
Final 3.39 3.39
