Or perhaps it's a singular product that (hence singular) nobody else makes, and therefore they can charge what they want to those willing to buy?
I don't think there is a "market price strata" for Mk4 oil pan skid plates and this thing is off the charts.
Call it what you want. Unfair, expensive, whatever. The other option is making one. And doing it right will run much more in time and materials that just ponying up for the only one that is already out there.

It's an OEM VW skid plate, that comes stock in northern European models Golf4-Jetta4. Fits the 4 cylinder petrol or TDi, not the VR6.

That looks a lot different than the one that I saw a long time ago...
The one I saw looked kinda' like it had little arms on the front of it...
It wasn't $50 either... the one I saw was MUCH more expensive...

We have no part number for that item and it does fit the 1.8T.
Only thing to deal with that engine (1.8T) is that the sump guard needs to be removed to change the oil. While it doesn't with the normally aspirated engine or the TDI one.
It's the last one in stock.
