Hi I drive a 2000 Golf (standard transmission). When I shift the armrest gets in my way so I want to get rid of it and put something else in its place? Thanks guys.

I hate that thing as well. Most ppl here do... haha So, I'm def. interested in some alternatives, as when I drive it spends most of it's time facing the backseat anyway...

Same with me man, I just leave it facing the back seat BUT to bad the cap on my armrest is broken so the lid always falls off man this thing is garbage

my lid is garbage too. hinges have been broken for over 3 years

i keep mine forward but pointed down. i find it comfortable that way. kinda like driving a lazyboy.

well there is usually a little coin holder that goes in place where the armrest goes..so if u take it out u can replace it with that piece..i think its like $15-$20 from the dealer.
or u could just put the armrest up.
my vw came without armrest and one of the first things i did was put an armrest in..i love it

I removed my armrest.
And placed in the OEM "shelf" as the replacement.

Or,....you could buy the one I have laying around. It's biege. Only problem is that it and the mat have a small hole in it to run an Ipod cord through.

The only time i can recall the armrest being handy was when i broke my arm and it hurt to shift without resting my arm on it...

Funny, I did the reverse. Removed the shelf/mat and put in the armrest.

+1. Armrest FTW. Once you don't have it you will realize how great it is.
I also shortened the shifter rod and installed a short shifter from an Audi TT. The shifter now comes nowhere near the armrest. Works great.

HAHA, My armrest keeps my big ass from floating towards the passenger seat. The door keeps me from floating to the left. LOL
