I'm not sure how either, but stay away from the iRock FM thingamabob that Apple sells off their site. It sucks as$. The reception varies greatly...even though it's inside the f-ing car, and it eats batteries like they're going out of style.
The only car I could get a solid link in was an early 80's Accord http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif
Get the *Sony* cassette adaptor. It's not bad actually.
The iRock (not an Apple product) FM thing sucks.
Other than that, tap the L/R lines going from the CD player to the radio and use a switching stereo 1/8 inch mini-jack. You'll have to have a CD inserted and playing, but it will give you a direct line in.
I bought an RCA input from rcainput.com for my iPod. The only part that sucks about it is, you need to plug it in at the trunk, but an RCA to Stereo adapter, and run that the the front of the car. I have in run to my glove box, and pull the cable out whenever I want to listen. I also have a PanaVise car mount. Looks fresh!
