I recently came across a good deal on a set of Schrick 268 cams. I just wanted to know from people who have the cams what should I expect as far as performance wise, and what will the "butt dyno" feel like. The guy who is going to be doing the install said something about about using valve springs from a TDI or something like that, what is that about?
Thank you in advance.
P.S. I would like this thread to stay free of, "Get DSR 256", comments, thank you.

Re: Attention all 268 owners...... (N.E.R.D.)

I am using heavy duty springs from TT. About $120 i think.
takes about 4-6 hours to install everything. feel the pull only at high rpm like 3500. do a search on this, it's been discussed a lot,...too much.

The TDI valve springs have a different spring ratio, heavy duty, these are the same springs that TT tuning and others sell. They are more commenly called the "HD" valve springs, used with cams that have an aggressive amount of lift or for cars that run up in the high RPM's all the time. Hope this helps.

Yea 268's HD valve springs, custom manifold(or vgi if you got the $$), Giac cam chip is one of the best combos there is for NAlow budgets. How come you get a dip man? There shouldn;t be a dip, should pretty a flat hp curve until like 5500 and it explodes. And its only about 2.5 hours install, maybe 4-6 if you've never been in the engine, but friend putting mine is can do them in like 2.5 now after doin many. Thanks, peace

Garrett has a chip especially made to work with the VR6 + 268 cams, it will fix the idle slightly, and advance your timing = woooo up top http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Attention all 268 owners...... (kevinvr6)

i've been looking into this alot lately, here's what i've found:
get the GIAC (garrett), without people say you loose a little bit of torque down low but still gain a ton up top.
i've heard of problems with the TT HD valve springs, I've been told to go with the Schrick one's but they are more $$$.
and this is a great mod to combine with a Schrick VGI.
someone on here has a link to a site with a bunch of VR6 dynos, I can't remember it off hand though, but there are a couple on there with dynos of cars w/ 268's. i think it's something like dyno.cjb.net, that's not it but it's close to that.
so, with that said hopefully today when potterman gets back to me on prices i'll be getting a VGI, Schrick 268's and Schrick HD springs.
