1391 Views 44 Replies 30 Participants Last post by  TheChad1.8t
I have a 2000 1.8T GTI and I don't have a good driving record by any means. I just was notified by my insurance company today that I being dropped. Is there anyone out there that may be able to help me out with some affordable insurance? I live in Southern California.
Thanks

They are dropping you for no reason?

Try State Farm or All State they usually have damn good rates. Unfortunantely you are in a bad area for insurance rates.

Re: Attn: insurance guys (lilasswang)

My wife and I preparing to buy a '02 1.8t jetta and when i called state farm they told me my rates would go up $100 a year because the jetta is turbo-fied. The TDI, 2.0 or the VR6 wouldn't have made any difference in my rates.
My driving record is less then stellar too, 4 reckless tickets...
Try Progressive, they will quote you and give the rates of up to 3 competitors, regardless if their rate is higher.

Re: Attn: insurance guys (lilasswang)

I was in a bad spot for insurance a year or so ago. I had to suck it up with Progressive for 6 months at a very high rate, think almost car payment size, but then was able to swith to Heritage (now Acuity) and dropped my rate significantly. You should be able to find a couple of brokers that target high risk people, but be sure you talk to more than one so you have competing bids. Best of luck!
Re: Attn: insurance guys (2001Wolfy)

TURBO was $94 more per 6 months

$15/mo for me..
Re: Attn: insurance guys (lilasswang)

try progressive. they asked me what kinda jetta i had and i told them GLS. didn't ask if i had a 1.8T or anything. just asked if it was a GL, GLS, or GLX. go figure.

call state farm back and ask them what the t in tdi stands for

yeah i thought it was wierd that i would have gotten lower rates on a vr6 instead of a 1.8t. go figure.

Re: Attn: insurance guys (g-1)

State Farm is raping me
$2000 every 6 months
the sad part is, its the cheapest ive found =D
Re: Attn: insurance guys (steez)

thanks for the replys but I was hoping to find someone that was in the industry and might be able to help me out.
Dropped me because I have 8 seatbelt tix, 100+, redlight, 3 fix it tix, and a not-at- fault accident
Re: Attn: insurance guys (lilasswang)

State farm is a ripp off!!
I am using CNA for home and cars; they were about $400/yr cheaper than Country Companies.
Best of luck though. When you get dropped from an insurance company, you get a MAJOR black mark on your CURB report, which is what underwritter use to manage risk. Expect your rates to be way higher.

LOL, funny you mention that because I did and she kind of just grunted.
I figure it will take 4.5 years for me to break even if I spend the extra $450 on the VR6 and save $100 a year for insurance... I'd rather have the turbo. zoom zoom!

I'm surprised they let you drive at all with all those tickets. wtf goes through your head when you drive?!?! You've gotten over 100 tickets for running red lights?!? You're my worst nightmare when I leave a stoplight at green...

All State quoted me more for V6 engines on the VW than the 1.8 turbo. Difference $30+ for the VR6 jetta and/or GTI. huh? Go figure. Somehow they dont see the turbo in the TDI
May be they think T as a Tractor not Turbo ;-P j/k. TDI is great!!

Re: Attn: insurance guys (idburns)

Not sure why State Farm is ripping anyone off...they were the best in my region (which, I know, is pretty inexpensive). Nevertheless, idburns, my State Farm policy went up $36/year going from a 140hp Nissan to a 150hp '01 1.8T. I did not find that bad really for the extra boost. No $100 or $50/month or anything. Is it really the 30 more horses? I have a good record...but...
I wish you luck lilasswang...and to everyone with these insurance rates through the roof!

I'm going from a '01 124hp Saturn SC2 coupe to a 180hp monster! But it's sooo worth it

Sorry for the whole "You're my worst nightmare" thing, i misread the post. lol

Re: Attn: insurance guys (dkrutewicz)

HP is NOT the only/major way an insurer rates a vehicle.
The greatest cost is generated by the driver and their record. Usually, age, sex, zip code, single/married, driving record.
Comprehensive & Collision is the second major cost factor, a VW GTI is most-likely more expensive to fix when damaged in an accident then a Nissan sentra. Check with your ins. agent, they can tell you what the vehicle code for comp & coll is (a number between 1 and 17). The higher the number the greater the cost to get coverage.
the rest of the factors are based upon location of insured.
Re: Attn: insurance guys (lsinlv)

I got married in July and when I added my wife to my policy it immediately dropped by 50%, no joke. I was paying close to $2000/year and now we only pay like $800/year. When I'm 25 (23 now) it will drop again.
4 recklesses look bad but I get one on average of every 2 years.
The problem is they stay on your record for up to 5 years in VA...
