Audi is getting ready for the final round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge at Kayalami, in South Africa. And to celebrate, the team has designed one of the finest liveries ever to adorn the R8.

The series has had just three rounds so far, at the Bathurst 12 Hour, Indianapolis, and the 24 Hours of Spa, heading into the final round on the weekend of December 10. So far, Porsche is in first with 79 points and its lead seems safe. But second-place Mercedes-AMG is just four points ahead of Audi, which is in third. Audi’s lead over fourth-place BMW is anything but assured, though, with the two teams being separated by just three points.

Audi has been on the rise, though, with its worst result coming at the first round in Australia. Since then it has steadily improved and its best result came at the last round, the 24 Hours of Spa. Mercedes’ trajectory, meanwhile, has been the opposite.

We “are doing our utmost to improve our position,” says Chris Reinke, Head of Audi Sport customer racing. “The varied circuit in South Africa has prepared an exciting race for us and also marks the finale of a demanding season in the IGTC in 2020.”

To improve its position, Audi Sport has put its fair share of hot shoes behind the wheel. Markus Winkelhock, currently fifth in the drivers’ standings, will share a car with Dries Vanthoor and Kelvin van Der Linde. The other Audi Sport Team WRT car will be piloted by Charles Weerts, Frederic Vervisch, and Mirko Bortolotti.

A third R8 in this excellent livery is being run under the Audi Sport Team Car Collection banner. It will be driven by Mattia Drudi, Christopher Haase, and Patric Niederhauser.
