Several weeks ago Audi USA did confirm that it will launch a commercial ad campaign around this year's NFL Super Bowl. In the past Audi has run high-visibility ads such as the Godfather inspired new luxury R8 piece, the time-warping Jason Statham A6 3.0T commercial and last year's controversial Green Police A3 TDI spot. Just which car Audi will push in the 2011 spot remains to be seen but USA Today has revealed details about a significant social media component that will surround the efforts.

According to USA Today, "Audi will seek out — and reward — its 10 "most active" social-media fans before the Super Bowl. It will award glitzy trips and other prizes to the fans whose social-media posts are most original and most numerous. "We're trying to use social media to glue everything together," say Scott Keough, chief marketing officer at Audi of America."

We've contacted Audi of America to confirm the story and they have stated that it is true. Audi is not yet ready to reveal full details though they will eventually be released via the usual PR channels as well as via Audi's Facebook and Twitter presences.

If you fancy yourself an Audi fan who's also prolific on Facebook or Twitter, you should probably pay attention as it could pay off as a trip to the big game.
