Audi of America's head Johan de Nysschen spoke to automotive journalists at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. yesterday. I was able to attend, and recorded the entire speach. In it, de Nysschen made some very interesting points, as well as showing his more humorous side and tackling subjects as ranging as Unintended Acceleration to why Audi is more successful than Lexus. The Audi executive also made a very interesting note on the topic of diesel.
After being asked during the Q&A session what his plans were for diesel in America, de Nysschen said "you put me in a difficult situation". He went further to say that he was not prepared to make an announcement about diesel, because an official announcement of diesel is planned for the L.A. Auto Show, press days for which are coming up at the end of this month.
Expect a transcript of this speach to be available on Fourtitude shortly.

Re: Audi To Make American Diesel Announcement at L.A. Auto Show ([email protected])

Three words: About damn time! Why would Audi race the R10 over here with out trying to sell/advertise something to us? They tried to sell more Audis period with the original R8, then FSI with the post 2000 R8, and TDI with the R10. Not that I can afford any diesel Audi( or any Audi) right now, but Audi will definintly lead the way with diesel technology, in their typical "Vorspung durch Technik/Never Follow" fashion.

Some nice ads would help with the R10. Looking forward to it. It will use BLUETEC technology. But the Audi Q7 TDI V6 3.0 beat the MB R class 320 CDI in acceleration by 1.2 seconds. Audi and TDIs are the superior diesels.

That's right move. Consider Mercedes sells their E320 Bluetec with superb residual value (83% after 3 years) and crazy lease rates (10.5%), while still sold all of them not even before off the factory. If there is an S-line, 2.0TDI DSG A3 Sportback or Quattro 6-speed S-line A4 Avant 2.0TDI; these cars will fly off the lots. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: (GTX141)

It will include an official announcement on Bluetec. This blog picked up a news piece on Audi's use of Bluetec via a financial publication a few weeks ago. However, an invitation to the joint announcement for VW, Audi and Mercedes was sent out this week to journalists. We'll have staff attending the event, and will also be running any press releases as well.
