My wifes '00 Cabrio tranny jerks into gear while stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, it like revs a bit and then hits first gear hard. This only happens when the engine/tranny are cold, no problems at operating temp, in fact it shifts very smoothly. The car has 77,xxx miles on the odo. Anyone have the same problem? Fluid level maybe?
Thanks.

Re: Auto Tranny problem when cold. (eluminx)

It is probably just time to do a fluid and filter change. As the fluid gets contaminated and breaks down its characteristics change. You're seeing the results of a thickened fluid which is no longer within specification.
It's a good idea to get on a 50,000 mile drain interval with your car's transmission. I honestly believe that VW is way off the mark when they suggest that their ATF is a 'fill for life' fluid.
