My mother-in-law has a 97 Jetta GLS with the auto tranny. Withibn the last couple of days, the cars has been shifting strangely - namely it seems to want to shift at 3700-3900 rpms. It doesn't matter whether the car is warm or cold, and is not dependant on throttle position - it will happen at low throttle, or at high throttle.
I checked the tranny fluid. Everything looks OK. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Hmm, 97 Jetta GLS?
Wrong forum?
Anywho, have you checked the ATF pump?

Yep, wrong forum. Mods, please move to A3 forum - Thanks.

Maybe your tranny fluid might be contaminated? Sorry I have a Mk2, dont know much about MK3's.

Didn't think of it that way...Maybe I can explain to her that it's a feature, not a problem

Re: (4dhatch)

I had the same problem with my 87 Jetta. Apparently VW installed an aftermarket acceleration cable into mine after the original one snapped, but didn't adjust it correctly. Check to see if that has been replaced lately. If so, that might be your problem.
