Re: automatic door locks (ALEXVR6)

yep if you've got a VAG-COM tool, you can do it yourself.
Otherwise, on your next trip to the dealer just ask 'em to disable the lock feature. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I'm guessing since he asked, he hasn't already dropped the $200 for VAG-COM. So I'd just ask nicely at your next servicing and they should take care of it for you. My dealer reprog'd my locks at my 5k. Now when I hit unlock on my remote, all 4 doors unlock - no more hit unlock twice to let others in.

Re: automatic door locks (ALEXVR6)

My locks came from the dealer set to lock @ 10MPH and unlock when I take the key out of the ignition. To unlock driver's door I press unlock once - twice for all doors. Can someone post the different variations that can be adjusted by the dealer/VAG?

Another thing re: the door locks -
I have noticed that the buttons all go to different levels when in the locked position. Rear Right and Left stick up about 1/8". Front Right is flush with the door. Front Left (drivers) sticks up about 1/4". In all cases the doors are locked. Do others have the same thing? Is this done by design? Why?

Are they equal when locked as well? Mine seem equal when unlocked, but not when locked.

They should all be flush when in locked position, at least mine are. Do a search on lock codes, there are many variations. I had my dealer de-code the auto lock at 10MPH, I hated that annoying noise it made.

I had an interesting occurance when I first got my car. I took off with the windows down and my arm out the window. Hit 10mph and OWWWW
the locks pinched the hell out of my arm when they locked.

Re: automatic door locks (Daveedub)

Speaking of locks (not to go horribly off topic here), one of things I noticed while driving the rented Beetle while my car was in the shop was how totally quiet the door locks were. When I lock/unlock my car, all of the locks make loud clunking noises. The beetle's locks just made a faint sliding noise. I might ask the dealer next time I'm in about swapping some. I wonder if it's that way for all 2002's....

Re: automatic door locks (tulmad)

Maybe the NB uses an air pressure system to lock and unlock like Audi A4's and old Benzes. If this is the case it doesn't seem to be worth the effort to try to convert your system.

Let's see:
- 1 push of remote unlock does all 4 doors
- 1 push of remote unlock does driver door, second push unlock other 3 doors
- removing key from ignition automatically unlocks all 4 doors
- removing key from ignition does nothing
- auto lock at 10mph
- no auto lock at 10mph
you can also turn on/off the honk when arming the alarm and set the disarm sound from nothing to 2 short honks... oh and you can adjust weather the lights blink or not when arming/disarming alarm
