Which do you prefer?
And Why?
I've been doing alot of looking around and i'm probably going to be putting money down on an MIII soon.. i've driven both, but i'm not sure which I would be into more? I do a daily commute to work and would like some feedback on which is the best bet to go with..

Umm, is there even a question? If you're a sissy, get an automatic.

Edit: I'll get an automatic when I'm old and lack the co-ordination to shift. hahah..

I halfway understand why people get automatics. The only reason I am buying one is because I am getting an awesome deal on the car.
BUT if you stop go stop go stop go stop go stop go stop go stop go, then well, maybe an auto is a good choice.
A lot of people will flame this and go "no no manual is better" blah blah blah blah, but, what came first? the stick or the automatic?

Its made to make driving easier, especially if you have a lot of distractions.
But when it comes down to it it s pure preference

sissy not me i have a auto but i got it cheap and if i sold it today i would make money on it also i can't drive with my left hand because of a accident

Yeah, I'm just trying to get a rise out of all you guys with autos. Personally I don't care what everybody else has in their car. I just enjoy my manual, that's all.

i have been through 2 automatic trannies...and one manual... the autos blew up...the manual is running strong...and all in the stealth..

Love the 5spd...but frankly, when I'm in bumper-bumper on Rt 80 during rush hour...I so wish it was an auto...

the automatic is alot slower than the stick shift....well depending on the driver I guess, but you lose more power in the drivetrain with an auto. Sticks shifts are just better...granted stop and go traffic $ucks.

ya im running a 2.0... the automatic couldnt handle the torque being put to the ground in the corners... i blew up tranny mounts like every other week..anyhow... im done with vw automatics..maybe if i owned a jetboat or a 67 chevelle.....the only automatic i would even think about getting and that would be for the "cruising car"and audi allroad ... would be the seamless multronic...monotronic...whatever it is .. the seamless automatic gearing for the new audis/vw's....those automatics shift almost like a manual and you cant feel a thing when you are shifting at 6500 in any car...

My Opinon (<--- look, opinon, no flaming)
Autos are for people who are lazy or can't drive (or have special circumstances). VW = Drivers Car. If you can't drive, don't get a drivers car, get a honda with an auto.

i was wondering what type of model you would recomend buying? this will be my first VW.. i'm looking for reliabilty with balls know what i'm sayin.. don't know much bout the 2.0 so maybe you could enlighten me!
like i said in the opening post i'm looking for my VW as we speak...

So Im a sissy? Try shifting in L.A. traffic everyday...I bet you wouldnt last a week with a manual.That pic of Hasselhof & Coleman is GREAT hahahaha!

You open yourself to flame when you post..no one is Immune to that.
Ok if that the case why do they make VWs in Auto? Ive driven both, and to be honest there was no real marginal difference between a Manual or Auto 2.0 Jetta.

Hmmmm....never had an auto, the only way I'd get one is in a big truck, to tow my race car with.
