I have an '01 GTI VR6. It's exhaust really stinks of sulfer.
The computer has no fault codes and I've noticed no performance problems with the car. The smell seemed to start after I had the gauge cluster replaced with the euro sport model. I don't know whether the tech may have programmed the car wrong or it is a coincidence. Anyone have experience with this problem on the car? It is completely stock. - And geez it reeks!!

Re: Awful Sulfer Smell From VR6 - help!! (bigbot45)

How long have you had the smell for? A strong sulfur smell is generally attributed to gasoline. If it is a new odor, or if you have been buying gas from the same place, try another station for a couple of tankfuls.

AKA the Italian tune-up.
Also if you drive around town a lot the cat may be clogged. Can't imagine it would be that way yet. The way you can tell is drive it around for a bit at dusk. See if it glows at all.
Also, on the VR6 for some reason I have smelt this before. Seems to be sort of across the board occurance w/VW's for whatever reason.
