B3 questions; headers,lighting upgrades?

I have a 90 passat wagon. I need the "flex" pipe between the manifold and catalytic converter. Apparently this is a dealer only part. Would it be more practical to use this opportunity to install a header, if so any sources for one? Also looking for clear front turn signals, sidemarker upgrades (the little ones to replace "GL" plaque), and maybe a smoked tail light treatment. Does the tinting spray go on the inside or outside of lense?
I don't want to get too crazy with the upgrades, just give it a euro-look. Learned my lesson on an 86 735i.

Well I don't know about the header, but I do know about the lights. You have to get the E-code lights from Europe. I think thats the only way to get the clear corner light you want. And as far as the sidemarker, I think there's a company that makes them, but there not the common. Do a search in this forum, Cullen did a post on them. And you can tint your taillights with VHT Niteshades, works real well. Check my pics, I sparyed mine.

Hey, welcome to the Vortex!
Your 1990 model Passat uses the same side repeaters as the early Mk3 Golf/Jetta, so most colours are available. I run smoked ones on my 1991 variant, but In-Pro have just brought out a crystal clear version, like the ones VW are currently fitting on Mk4 Golfs/Jettas etc. I think they look real cool, and I'll be fitting some as soon as. As for tail lights, I've been trying to sort something a bit better than stock for a while. I tinted mine all red, but didn't lacquer them and they have faded. There is a post on here somewhere about how to do it. If I find it, I will let you know. Basically, paint the outside

Yeah, just a couple coats and then a clear lacquer should do it. Hope that helps! Now, what's wrong with this damn keyboard

Sidemarkers are available in smoked or orange from Hella. They are available in a multitude of colors from other companies, but other than In.Pro, I have found the quality/look of other brands to be quite poor. As for the blinkers, they don't fit on US headlights without cutting/fitting. Plus, if you get European headlights they'll make the car safe at night. Taillights are available in several arrangements from Hella. Hella sells the standard orange/white/red taillights, smoked/red taillights and all smoked taillights. Treser sells all smoked taillights, too. Every kind of the above lights have been on my car and they all look great (except the stock ones...

Any idea of the prices for the Hella or Treser tail lights, or where to get them? If you know of a website for Treser, that'd be handy too!

Treser went out of business years ago. None of these items are for sale new anymore except *maybe* the all-smoked Hella tails. You need to source these products used. The best way for a fool like me is using German eBay. http://www.eBay.de/

Cool, thanks for that. Nothings ever simple with these B3's is it? I think I might concentrate on finding someone to convert my standard lights to half clear / half red, or just have a go myself.

I've heard that most headers are prone to cracking on street driven VW's. I replaced my flex pipe with TT's flex pipe, its supposed to flow really well. I'm happy with it
