Well, tonight i took the passat for an "illegal" ride to the store to get some coke. I took off from the store and i broke a motor mout hardcore! Its gotta be the front or rear, havent looked yet, but i felt that friggin engine buck backwards like it was its job!
Is this a common VR(lots of nut)6 problem? How hard are they to do? HOw expensive? My car is an (ick) Auto, dont know if that makes a difference in the way the mount is. THanks.

Re: B3 VR6 motor mounts.. (xscirocco16vx)

To find out which one just rev it up with the hood open and you (or a friend) will see which one (you may have to slightly load the car like in gear).... It is probably the front and you probably snaped the lower bolt under the crossframe..., so check there first (go underneath and you can see if the bolt in the middle is still there).
If all your mounts are old and shot... just get turn 2 or kcd lower and upper inserts.

Trust me it is worth it to get the turn 2's.... I think the stock front (upper and lower) was somewhere around $120 cdn. Did you check out which mount?... you might just need a new lower front bolt and mount.

Re: B3 VR6 motor mounts.. (Clubdem)

To Clubdem,
I got the lower front from Momentum a long time ago and I think they still sell them. They go for about 100 bones cdn. There are clones on the market for about half of that.... The upper front and rear I had to order from the states as nobody at that time carried them. Do you have a 2.0 16v? If so, I don't think they make one (different style).

Re: B3 VR6 motor mounts.. (draggin' wagon)

So the front mount is 2 piece? I checked my car and its definatly the front mount... if you put it in drive, and rev it a little with your foot on the brake, the motor lifts from the front subframe and rocks backwards... the entire mount is lifting from the subframe (staying connected to the motor). So i could just replace the bolt and only the lower half of the mount?

Is your car 2.0 16v? or vr6? If it is vr6 then it is two pieces (upper and lower). I believe if it is 16v then the mount is a big sort of ball with a bolt in the middle... you may have to change the whole mount... you should see what is broken.
If it is a vr6 and since you know that the entire front upper comes up with the engine, go on the bottom and you will see a small cup held with three nuts and in the center there should be a bolt.... remove the three nuts and take down the cup... be carefull as you may snap the studs the nuts are on (maybe spray some thin penetrating spray). and you can see the lower portion of the mount, remove the middle bolt (if it is still there and voila you can see if you need a new lower mount... good luck getting a lower mount 'cause the dealer only sells them as one piece (lower and upper). I hope this helps. Later
