There is a user on the Vortex, larsensa, that is in the middle of this. I helped install the seats and he is getting them wired up soon. He could probably help you out with more specific questions.
I do know that Passats without the power seats standard are not equipped with the proper wiring harness to do a "plug and play" install.

thanks for the feedback. So, I take it that the tracks and airbag hookups ar the same? Sounds like wiring may have to be run back from the fuse block.

Keep in mind how these "GLX only" seats interface with the comfort & convenience module.
The C&C module receives a signal from the remote for three different seat/power mirror settings. It will be easy to get airbags and power to make the seats work. Getting them to work with the remote and have the mirrors adjust too will be a little more involved.

Ended up finding a used 2001.5 GLX, so for now it's not an isssue.
