Behind rear VW emblem...indented?

On a 2000, 2001, or 2002 Golf or GTI, behind the back VW emblem...does anyone know if the sheet metal is indented? Or is it just smooth? I was just wondering cuz I was thinking of just takin of my rear VW emblem...but I have a feeling that the sheet metal is indented....anyone know? THANKS

Nope, there is an indent where the emblem is.

So, if I take off the emblem along with the greyish.black piece that is behind the chrome VW emblem...it will be flush with the back hatch?

Not on the GTI/Golf. Key hole is down by the hatch handle.

No keyhole on the Golf and yes you will have a big round dent if you remove the badge.

That's exactly what I didn't want to hear....looks like I am just gonna go for the black front and rear emblems now!

theres a guy at my school who debadged but must have not realized there'd be an indent. or he likes it. whichever, it looks funny.
