I was told by a dealer (who didn't have beige leather in stock) that the beige was too "yellow" and customers were compaining about it. They also said that they weren't getting any more in because they didn't order them because of this reason.
Is there any truth to that? Are owners of the beige leather happy? I haven't seen one in person.
We own an '01 RX 300 with what they call "tan leather" and very happy with it.
Any info is appreciated...

Re: Beige interior (leather) yellow-ish?? (outrun)

I drove in one. It's kind of banana colored. It was changed to this yellowish color with the updated passat. It's definitely has a yellow tint IMO. I don't think it looks good with the dark grey color of the top half of the dash. I like the grey interior myself, probably because that is what I have.

I've seen that color and wasn't impressed with it at all http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif
Seems like they can't quite get the color right. Call around and see if another dealer has that interior. You really need to see if for yourself before making a decision.

I have the beige interior with Silverstone Grey and I think it looks great! The contrast with the black dash is very classy IMO. Many people have commented on how great my car looks. Definitely don't get the black interior though -- it is quite depressing in there, kind of reminds me of a coal mine.

I think vwguild called it "butterscotch." I was under the impression that the beige was revised. This butterscotch is truly a horrible beige, at least as far as American tastes go. I actually like tan interiors, but i would never get this so called butterscotch shade.

Re: Beige interior (av_audi)

The new beige is just yucky. The best description I can imagine would be this. Imagine a car with white leather that was constantly smoked in for 50 years and never cleaned. That tarrish, beige, tobacco-stained color is what you'd have . . . yuck. It can look ok with colors like Ink blue or indigo but it's still a bitch to keep clean. I like the black interior for sportiness, and the gray for practicality.

Re: Beige interior (av_audi)

I would of rather had the Tan interior that the TT has as an option. I think its called Baseball leather?!?! Anyways, when I went to order my car the dealer had the Idigo Blue with Grey interior leather, but I wanted the tan. The sales person told me "Michael, your 21 and young...how many times do you go to the beach and load up your car with friends?" I said all the time..She said she doesent recomend light interiors if you have an active lifestyle.. But as stubborn as I am...I still ordered my car in the Tan interior leather. Im very happy with the color (although Im more into the darker tan like Mercedes, and the TT have) one thing I dont like is that the doors get scuff marks from the smallest rubs from shoes! And as careful as I am with interior of my car...it still seems to get dirty quite often!
Hope this helps.. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

It is yellowish. I like it, but I suspect there are colors it would not go well with. My car is ink blue, and I think the combination looks great. It would probably also look very nice with black, indigo, Colorado red, pine green, and fresco green.
It'll take some work to keep it clean, but so far (1 week today) I have no complaints.

Re: Beige interior (leather) yellow-ish?? (outrun)

About 2 months ago I test drove a 2002 GLX with 4 motion that had this awful yellowish leather interior. I wouldn't call it beige that would be too misleading. I was shocked that the one I saw was a color option at all never mind that it was in leather - that's how garish it was.

I would call it more of a butternut and it looks really classy with Ink Blue. Obviously you're going to have to see it in person to make up your mind. Color choices are very personal (interior & exterior) so it's good to get opinions but in the end it's up to you! That's why they make more than one color!

Re: Beige interior (bleslie)

I have and really like it. Go's very well with the black dash, and I added black floor mats to replace the POS stock mats. I tend to wear clean clothes, don't smoke cigarettes, or drink coffee in a moving vehicle - keeping it clean isn't a problem. Sure beats driving around in a hot, sticky, black tomb in the summer.

Color is a very personal issue. I agree with all those who recommend
you see it in person before making any decisions. We have beige leather
in our Fresco Green 2002 Variant and, obviously, feel it is spectacular.
It really does look great with the black trim, and we also put black mats
in (monster mats rule!) immediately.
It is, no question, very tough to keep clean -- particularly with two
children occupying the back!

Re: Beige interior (Multiple VW in WI)

I have the tan interior and I love it , lot of work to keep it clean , but I don't have any kids so..... i use to have a Jetta GLX with tan interior and I hated that color and kind of leather. The one on the Passat is more robust and easier to clean. Contrast black dash and light interior is beautiful. And all my clients like my interior.
Cheers

Re: Beige interior (leather) yellow-ish?? (outrun)

Last January, I ordered a black Passat GLX sedan with beige interior. It is expected in around mid-April (Atamaian in Tewksbury). However, a great deal became available a few weeks ago and I purchased the pine green w/ beige leather. Actually I didn't think I would consider Pine Green but it was pretty with the beige interior.
It is a very personal choice. I wanted the beige interior and was somewhat flexible on the exterior color. Obiously, it is a personal choice but I like the beige a lot and it looks good with the black console. As some have stated, it is more buttery than taupe. And you do have to be careful. It does show the marks
I see you are in Ashland. You may want to speak w/ Ben Atamian at Atamian in Tewksbury. Ben was a real pleasure to work with and, if he hasn't already sold the car, perhaps you can either look at the beige leather w/ black exterior and/or buy it. Best of luck!

Re: Beige interior (leather) yellow-ish?? (outrun)

I have had mine for about 5mths now, and although it is a pain to clean, I still think I made the best choice. I personally didn't like the GREY, I was looking for something a little lighter, and Black isn't my thing.
Although like I stated it is a PAIN
, because it gets dirty so friggin easy... BUT when it is clean... WOW!! What a sweet looking interior especially with the Indigo Blue.

The dealer is probably just out of stock, and trying to save a sale by telling you it's too yellow. If you like the beige then get it, don't let anyone bully you out of your personal choice.
Good Luck!

Re: Beige interior (leather) yellow-ish?? (outrun)

My experience is that people either love it or HATE it. I suppose if Audi used the same hue, called it "Caramel Latte" or something like that, the rest of us would say, "right, right, right, quite lovely."
You MUST see it before you buy. It is different.

Re: Beige interior (VeeDubMcDave)

These pictures can't be as accurate as seeing it in person, but you can at least get an idea of the contrast. I don't love it, nor do I hate it. Let's say.... I like it a lot. I don't have to spend a lot of time cleaning it either. Yes, scuff marks do appear quickly on the inside door panels, but they generally come off with a little handsoap & damp washcloth. Lexol works great at keeping the leather clean too.
