This thread will be for all Skid plate/belly pan discussion. Below you will find your options, and the parts for install if you lose your original parts. If you'd like to add a new plate/pan post up and it will be added.
For the a4 b5 you have 4 options that have been proven to work, and two more I uncovered which I think would work so somebody may want to look into.

Known to work:
1) Stock - 8D0 863 821S
My local dealers all list this between $150 and $200.
2) Heavy Duty - 8D0 863 821AC
My local dealer lists this at $566. I told him that was assanine, and he said "Well, it IS heavy duty". This parts guy may be crazy, but I googled the part and it seems to range from $350 to $500, so that quote does make sense.
3) The Diesel Geek "Panzer" skid plate - B5PANZA4
http://www.dieselgeek.com/servlet/Detail?no=375
At the time of writing this, it looks like this costs $249 before shipping. Looks to be a solid piece, and is favored by some of the members here.

-> kenncmiller's Panzer thread
4) The Passat W8 skid plate - 3B7 825 235A
This part lists at $70.62. Dealers seem to have it at that price in most places, but some dealers mark it up to almost $400. If all else fails you, http://www.1stvwparts.com has it for $51 and change, but shipping will set you back almost another $50.

Now, the ones that would be MIGHT work based on the fact that the W8 Fits, but somebody would have to confirm:
1) The Evolution Imports "Thor" skid plate for b5 passat
http://www.evolutionimport.com...7.htm
This is listed at $249 plus shipping. It's similar to the Panzer plate, and since the w8 pan fits this could be an option if for some reason the Panzer in unavailable to you.

2) This random belly pan on Passatworld
http://www.passatworld.com/for...belly
Looks like it costs about $150, and has a door for access to change oil. As with the previous item this is not something I've seen tested, but since the w8 pan fits this may was well. I'd PM the OP on Passatworld to ask or post in that thread.

CLIP - 4A0 805 163 - black plastic, wheel well, 4 needed
LOCK WASHER - 4A0 805 137A - retaining disks for wheel well pins, 4 (optional)
DOWEL PIN - 4A0 805 121A - black plastic, wheel well, 4 needed
DOWEL PIN - 8D0 805 121 - silver metal, 6x18mm, rear pan, 3 needed
DOWEL PIN - 8D0 805 121B - black metal, 6x20mm, front pan, 2 needed
RUBBER WASHER - 4A0 805 137 - retaining disks for rear dowel pins, 3 needed
10mm self-locking nut with integral washer - front center of belly pan, 1 needed
One of the reasons the belly pans fall off is that techs don't realize that the front "dowel pins" are longer than the back pins, and they get them switched around. The front "dowel pins" (Dzus fasteners) are metal, like the back, but they are painted black to identify them as being different.
So in the front of the belly pan, there are two long black 20mm pins holding up the belly pan, and one center silver 18mm pin holding the front bumper assembly. ETKA is exactly backwards on this - it shows the center pin holding up the front of the belly pan, and the two special-length pins holding the front bumper assembly.

Re: Belly Pans / Skid plates (goody6691)

Just thought I would say; for those wanting to upgrade to the W8 plate....dont. Its identical to the stock 1.8t one. If you need a replacement, get one, but dont buy it if you dont need it.

Yeah it's not so much of an upgrade as a means to replace your lost belly pan on the cheap.
Mine was $55 for the record, done and done.

I want the diesel geek one really bad, It just seems like a pain to have to take it off to do oil changes... Is it heavy? Is it a long process to get on and off?

Re: (AWCx)

Seems to be about 13 lbs... really not thath heavy, although 13lbs may feel different when you're trying to finagle it into place. I found a thread on AZ where a bunch of guys were saying it's as easy if not easier to get off the car than the stock plate.

I never have had to deal with the stock plate, because it flew out from under my car on the freeway as I was driving it home for the first time. haha

I would just say extract the oil from the dipstick tube -- i access the filter from the top too ... problem is getting out the filter (i usually set it on the subframe, and go under to grab it out)
anyone get a high capacity filter in and out from the top?
