Benefits of low temp thermostat?

I've noticed some ppl have low temp fan switch and thermostats.. what is the advantage of doing this?

The low temp t sat opens earlier..I think 160 F for the Vr. I noticed a nice reduction in oil temps according to my MFA. I would highly recomend it. Sometimes the tstat housing is a littel warped. I think parts4vws.com have a kit with a new housing, t stat, and gasket for a good price
