Free Bump, I have the same question.

Well first let me say I just have the paper service manual, not the CD
BUT as I understand it (someone correct me if I'm wrong), the CD has a lot more of the codes for CEL's and more diagnostic information if you're going to be using the VAG 1551 (or in our case VAG-COM)

The book is way cheaper, I have the cd (dont think by bently) but it looks just like my bently book when I running the cd. I paid like 30 bucks for it.

So i only would really want the CD if I am going to do VAG-com stuff.... but then I would need vag-com stuff
I want to get a chip... but that sure doesn't warrant me to go get VAG-com
thanks... any other people

i heard that the CDROM isn't nearly as extensive as the book... just what i've heard, though, i haven't seen the CDROM.

when i got my vagcom from rosstech, i called Uwe with some questions on codes, he recommended the cd version of the bentley as it was more suited for code diagnostics. i had the paperback. there still is 10+ pages worth of codes in the paperback but not sure if the cd version would be more descriptive of the codes themselves. it would be nice if the cd version could link to solution areas when clicking on a code.

A previous post of this same topic had one Vortexer saying that the navigability of the CD-ROM kinda' blew and he basically said it wasn't worth it. I think a search on the topic will bear this out.
BTW, you can get the book at Amazon for like $55USD + shipping, which is a lot cheaper than most other places offer it. That's where I'm planning on getting mine.
Good luck

It doesn't come out until next week.

I have both the book and the CD for my Passat. The CD is good if you want to print pages and not trash your paper manual with greasy fingerprints while you work on the car. The Bentley CD is not as easy to navigate as others I have used like DCX CDs. DaimlerChrysler uses pdf format and you can print entire ranges of pages, and the index/find is great for finding very specific topics. If you work on cars a lot like I do, you will probably end up owning both the book and CD.

Yeah, but isn't getting the pages greasy and dripping blood from nicks and cuts on the pages all part of the car ownership experience? Oh, I forgot ... a lot of swearing goes in there, too.
