Re: Best autocrossers? (RJetta8V)

Nothing beats Mazda Miata's go-kart handling. The superb RWD balance with the super agile chassis. Along with its extremely communicative steering and short shifter, it all combines into one wonderful dynamic package.

I voted for the Miata based on cost, fun, and learning ability. A good, serviceable Miata can be had for around 4 grand. An E30 M3 cannot
The Conquest/Starion route provides a good car, but they really aren't too competitive, and they're not the most reliable things. As for the 510, great car, but definetly more scarce than the Miatas, possibly making it harder to find spare parts (Uhm, I don't think your local Nissan dealer will have ANY replacement parts for that car)
I SHOULD have Added the Dodge/Plymouth Neon to that list. In ACR and R/T trim they're QUITE competent autocrossers right out of the box, and Mopar offers items to upgrade them. Quite flickable, with really good power from the twin cam 2.0's. Sure, they're built like snot, but go to an Autocross and it's apparent what great little Auto-X'ers they are

Of the choices that were up there, Miatas get the most results. So that's my pick. CRX's are also a fantastic auto-x car that gets results.
You can speculate a lot about stuff like Datsun 510's or Corolla AE-86's, but you don't see very many of them at the events these days, so it's hard to say. Miata's and CRX's get results.
As JrodVW said, Neon's also are damn good little auto-x cars. And of course the wonderful Integra Type-R should not go unmentioned, either. My last auto-x this year was behind the wheel of my friend's G-stock ITR, those cars are simply amazing. We dusted off so much expensive german hardware I couldn't beleive it. Hell, we both beat an A-Street-Prepared Porsche 968 on race rubber (we are on his bone stock RE010's - no, it was not raining)! I think we also both beat an E30 M3, an E36 M3 sedan, two guys driving an S4, and a 911. ITR's are freaking fast, and if I knew how to drive, it'd be even faster
Oh well, there's always a faster driver, and a guy in an E46 323 beat me (but not my friend), and we were both beaten by a Street Mod Scirroco (I think, I just assume that guy always beats us because he's good and his car is sweet)!

miata's are great w/ the RWD and all but NEED power. i'm about 1 sec. off of the miata champs (CS class) auto-x times w/ 12 yrs. exp. to my one year. great chassis dying for some oomph.
Re: Best autocrossers? (1sweet16v)

They make a turbo kit for the Miata's. I have seen one in action. They are SCARY fast.
Re: Best autocrossers? (RJetta8V)

My Vote:
Porsche 914-6, performance bargain of the century.
Re: Best autocrossers? (PorscheAudi)

Speaking of Miatas, who's heard of the monster miata? Now -THAT- is a beast! I'm not sure how the 5.0 affects handling though!

I got my 510. Finally. HOLY CRAP! There are so many things I want to say, but Im gonna post everything youll ever want to see on it tomorrow. Lets just put it this way, the difference between the 510 and the Jetta is pretty much like the difference between the Jetta and my moms minivan.
Re: Best autocrossers? (Euro Dude)

We get the Focus SVT instead of RS. Despite its not as cool as a RS, SVT already a pretty great little autocrosser. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

The S2000 dominated the A-stock class last year (I belive it was last year).
Re: Best autocrossers? (Kierf - ¿§?)

I threw the RX7 in. Mid-engine, RWD, plenty of power.
Re: Best autocrossers? (Kierf - ¿§?)

No doubt S2000 is a great autocrosser. Superb RWD balance, wonderful chassis and high-rev VTEC motor. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
But it costs as twice or more of a Miata.

Say what? The S2000 is twice the price of the Miata? The base Miata's MSRP is $21,800. If you want the 6-speed, you have to get the Miata LS, which starts at $24,600. Add the suspension upgrade (which requires the purchase of ABS) and an appearance package, the total came out to $26,995.
The S2000 MSRP is $32,400. This includes everything the Miata has above and a little bit more.
...I'll take an S2000.

If you find it for $32,400, buy it on the spot!

Re: Best autocrossers? (youseelabruin)

Thew reigning champion at my local autoX is a Hartge tuned E30 imported from Germany. My little Sentra does pretty well. With a LSD, SR20DE engine and some suspension mods it would be REALLY quick!!

What about a new S-ER Spec V?
Re: Best autocrossers? (youseelabruin)

I have a hard time seeing a Miata running around at a Auto-X, any pics?
