Upsolute

I'd go with the Upsolute. Others are good, but Upsolute advances the injection timing, key to providing more power and better fuel economy. Wett does not do that. Also, Upsolute is not visible physically or electronically through the OBDII. Wett resockets and is visible when CPU is opened.
Re: Upsolute (Driv'n EZ)

second that, upsolute is the way to go.... you'll never regret getting that chip
Re: best chip (83 bunny)

For popularity, performance and customer service there are really only two choices for the TDI--Upsolute and all the rest. Since "all the rest" is only one or two others in North America, there is really only one choice you have. The vast majority who had their TDIs chipped in the last 18 months are Upsolutees.
down side of chips?

Is there enough of an advantage with an upsolute chip if you have nothing else? Also, is there any down side to these chips? warranty etc! I have a 2001 Jetta with 4200 miles Thanks Dave
Re: down side of chips? (D Wilson)

you might need to upgrade your clutch with can be expensive.

Re: down side of chips? (tdiLF)

The Upsolute chip makes a HUGE difference to these cars ... BUT ... strictly speaking, if something happens to the engine or driveline during the warranty period, you are on your own. Even if a failure were unrelated to the chip, expect to have a hard time with the dealer and VW if they know you're chipped. Right or wrong, that's the way it is.
Do you want power, or do you want warranty? You're the only one who can answer that question. Warranty is long gone on my car, so I have power

Re: best chip (Zuber Speed)

I had ABt on my last ride, then it came to a Crashing Stop...
When the warenty goes on this one, I shall get Upsolute. They are professionals at TDI Chipping from what I know.
Re: best chip (Euro Dude)

Thanks for the feed back everyone! I have alot of warranty left, guess I'll just drive it for awhile. It is really a nice car as it is, not worth the grief to mess with it this early.
Out of curiosity, would the upsolute have affected the fuel mileage much?
Thanks again

No difference in fuel consumption at all. It might even be a hair better.

Spoken by someone who has no actual experience! You only "need" a new clutch if you drive like an 18-year old with a riced-out Honda. If you drive like a normal person, you should not need a new clutch. Does the average Corvette owner drive with his foot to the floor all the time just because the car is fast? Of course not. The average TDI owner is a commutor who is not hard on the clutch. Increase engine power by 25-30% and he would still drive the same way. At least I do. The extra power is perfect for passing trucks on a two-lane highway. I just watch that I don't give it full throttle at low revs in 5th gear. But if you are the immature type that wants to race every machine on the road to prove your manhood and uphold the VW diesel banner, maybe you will need a new clutch. Also the first N.A. TDI to exceed 150hp and get to 60 under 7 seconds is Gary Miyakawa's NB. He still has the stock clutch.
And yes I firmly believe you get a slight increase in cruising mileage.

Re: down side of chips? (tdiLF)

From what I've read/seen, you don't usually won't need to do the clutch if you ONLY do UPsolute. If you go out and add in fat injectors or a tuning box WITH the chip, then you'll have trouble.
I have just the chip and have had no problems at all with the clutch. Of course, I have a 1996 Passat, which supposedly has a much stronger clutch. And yes, the chip alone makes a significant difference. It's like driving a different car. And, like others say/said, it actually makes for a small INCREASE in MPG if you don't abuse the power.
Re: down side of chips? (natescape)

UPsolute! hands down. You dont need to replace your clutch. Check my sig for my current mods and with them i have yet to touch my clutch. As for UPsolute warranty...if you dont like it take it back and they will install your original program for free. Also if they update the program you can get that reinstalled for free also. Its really a win win situation. And trust me...you wont be swtiching back.
Also about the warranty and VW issue. There is no way for them to tell that you have this chip. Even if they open up the ECU there is still no way of telling. The only way they can tell is hooking up their VAG tool and checking for boost. But again they will have no need to do that unless something serious has happened to the performance of your engine.

Not true! People forget the obvious. If they just drive the car they will know.

ST33LRT,
Have you ever timed your car? I was wondering what a late model TDI will do with chip, intake and exhaust.
