I did a search for this and came up with nothing.
I know it used to be the Golf and then it was the Focus. Anyone know what it is now? Please provide a source of info if you have one. thanks

Well, if you mean best selling in the history of the world, then it's the VW Beetle. Sold MILLIONS.
If you mean today... then I don't know.

Ford counted about 228,000 Focuses sold from December through April in about 60 countries, about 24,000 more than the previous top-selling car, the Volkswagen Golf. Since April, Ford has increased North American production, and in June the one millionth Focus rolled off an assembly line in Cologne, Germany.

The original beetle is the best selling car in history, which I think is followed by the mini. Hmm... I think these are the cars that have been in production the longest.

Perhaps that's best selling car without major changes? The Golf and Corrolla have both had extensive and constant revisions over their lifetimes.

Enthusiast is right, the Corolla is the best selling nameplate in history, and the Focus is currently the worldwide sales leader.

The Mini was never even close to being a best selling car in history. It only sold five million copies. Toyota sold over 22 million Corolla's. Even Lada has sold more Riva's (at around 14 million copies.)

If we are talking total new units sold from their introduction to today, I remember seeing some discovery channel show that said the Beetle had the record at one point but was surpassed some time in the 90s by the CoroLLa. It doesn't seem like the Focus would be able to catch up that quickly. If we are talking about units sold in a particular time period (last 12 months?) it may be a different story.

on sept. 20th year 2000 the 20 millionth golf rolled off the line.
read that in the december 2000 issue of Volkswagen Driver.

I read recently (perhaps the October issue) in the British car magazine CAR that the Golf/Jetta platform is currently the best selling platform at (I believe) 1.4 million units. As soon as I locate that article I'll post specific numbers.

Whats wrong with the Focus? The focus is pretty cool once you get past the bugs.
