Re: Bilstein/H&R Race vs. H&R Cupkit..... (k2bum)

The Cup kit is listed as between 1.7" and 2.0", don't know about the h&R/Bilstein combo..

i have some H&R race with koni adjustables, i'd say the drop is about 2.5 or maybe little more, i think its pretty low, i like it a lot, very go cart-ish

quote:

from wat i ve heard bilstein sports/h&r race is alot stiffer and better for handling.
h&r cupkit is more for lowering but is great for the price.

no offense but sorry, thats BS. The cup kit is basically a step down from the coilovers.
If you dont believe me, take a ride in a genuine H&R cup kit equipped-car.
And it lowered my car about 2.5 inches too.
$575. By the time you pay for springs, and struts, it actually comes out to be cheaper to buy the cup kit. Also, the spring is matched to the damper for the best ride/handling.

Re: Bilstein/H&R Race vs. H&R Cupkit..... (SauerKraut)

if you look at the H&R website they have like stage 1, 2, 3, 3.5 and 4
stage one is the OEM springs
2 is sport springs
3 is race
3.5 is cupkit
and 4 is coilovers
If you buy the complete bilstein struts (housing) it is cheaper to buy the cup kit, but if you buy the strut inserts the price of the H&R/bilstein is almost exactly the same as the cupkit.

Re: Bilstein/H&R Race vs. H&R Cupkit..... (88Jetta)

What is the spring rate on Cup kit. I have heard cup kits ride soft and lower the car way too much. H&R race is more for performance and lower the car only 1.4" which is just about right. The Blistien Shocks are also much better than the shocks that come with Cup kit.

Re: Bilstein/H&R Race vs. H&R Cupkit..... (kickster)

I had Bilstein Sports and Neuspeed Sport Springs on my B3 Passat VR6 and the H&R Cup Kit on my Jetta Coupe feels much stiffer. The Passat had 215/40ZR17 Tires and the Jetta has the stock 185/60R14's. Still, the Jetta feels rougher and much stiffer. It's probably going to be bone-jarring when I get my 205/45ZR16's on the Jetta.. but I LIKE that. I'd definitely trade some comfort in for performance.
