Bilstein Sport/H&R Sport Spring or Bilstein HD shock impressions

Finally updating my Passat wagon 1.8T. Looking into Bilstein Sport/H&R Sport package versus just a Bilstein HD shock configuration. I would like to improve the car's handling over stock without sacrificing comfort too much. Its obvious the shock/spring combo will give the best handling characteristics but how much will that degrade comfort? Comfort meaning, not like a Camary, but meaning compliant without being harsh, like a sports car. The car should also handle better with the HDs over stock while allowing comfort. I know this question has been posted quite a bit on this site but you’re feed back and impressions would be greatly appreciated.

I have the H&R Sport springs with the stock shocks and the ride is quite good. Handing is much better and its not harsh. Could probably be better with Bilsteins.

The Bilstein Sport and HD shocks have the same dampening, the Sport just has a shorter shaft (to accomodate lowering applications).
The Bilstein representative I spoke to about a year ago recommended the Bilstein Sports for even mild lowering, like my H&R OE springs which only dropped my car .75"
I've been very happy with the H&R OE/Bilstein Sport combination.
You'll hear from people using the Bilstein HD shocks with lowering springs and not having any problems.

You’re right Alpha. The Bilstein Sports are shorter to accommodate shorter springs.
Classy pics, BigRed.
Sport Shocks and Springs it is.
Thanks for the feedback.

I have had the Bilstein Sport/H&R Sport combo on my car since it was about 2 weeks old. I love the ride. Yes, it's harsher than stock but not so much so that it is uncomforteble. Even with our nasty back country roads in the winter, the ride is not all that bad. I was kind of fearful that the winter months would have me regretting this combo, but not so.
I would do it again.
