My 6 year... but finally running Corrado VRT build.

Building a '90 corrado vr6t. I don't care how "played out" it is. I've always wanted a corrado and a vr6 car. You do you, if you got problems with it.

Anyways im Brett.... from PA originally, currently stationed in Italy.

Ive driven mostly honda's for the last 10 yrs. well mostly preludes. as im on my 3rd & 4th currently as well as owning this 'rado. I call it the Blasphemy build since its my first VW. & most ppl didnt think id ever be in a vw. especially with all the vw/honda hate that existed in my hometown of Quakertown, Pa. but as of Aug. '11 i have been stationed in Sumter, SC. and have the privledge of knowing and becoming friends with a guy named Brandon (websaabn) and he has done nothing but try and convince me to join the dark side all while fully accepting and allowing me to play with my hondas at his place. which is already hoarded with his wife and his' vw's.

So i bought this C as a shell about 2 weeks before i deployed for $1200. Nothing crazy done. decent exterior, black leather interior in good shape. with a passat moonroof conversion started, custom fitted thermal catback, oem wheels w/ coilovers.

ive been given a short block 12v. vr6 that was previously running high 11's in the old owners gti. but im not betting on the C doing that for me. Im peicing everything togeather slowly to build it right.

It'll be getting a few things internally to strengthen up typical failure components. maybe a PnP head. ill be porting the stock manifold upper section for a bit more flow and making my own ramhorn style manifold from there to mount my Holset Hx35. i already have a few parts left over from a previous boost build i was working on. so we'll see what can be recycled and go from there but ill basically be doing all the piping myself with a good deal of help from my buddy.

So I'm building this motor to be stout and reliable. I want the power but I don't want to worry about it blowing up anytime in the near future.

I want to aim for 475-500 for now & in the future when I get a Trans fully built and get some nice axles then I'll have the tune adjusted and go for the. 600-700 range.

haha.. its funny cuz we were actually planning a build from the other side of that spectrum, using my 91 prelude. but i ulitmately decided i wanted to drive the project at some point in the next 2 yrs.

and i appreciate the open mind towards the honda.

heres some better shots of both of my preludes when the 91 was in its prime and the 97 as she currently sits.

& my works im almost done refinishing.

My favourite model from Honda (besides the NSX) and very nicely modified/not "ricey" at all if I may add
(I was actually going to buy one - white Type S 2.2L with red leather interior) before I bought my Corrado)

You can tell this is going to be a weak thread when there are more pictures of a prelude than the Corrado.
hell yeah man... you can bet on it. it might have a little something to do with the fact i owned it for a week and a half before deploying 2.5 months ago..... just saying. ;)

Welcome, I have seen you in here buying up parts:thumbup: I'm located in southeast Pa. When are you coming home? Welcome to the Dark side... I have a feeling you will always own a VW in your stable for now on. I don't hate Honda's as long as their not riced out:thumbup:
should be home in april/may. not sure when ill be home to PA after that im weighing a trip to japan to visit a female of interest. & i feel you may be correct on your predictions

sweet! good luck with build. im doing the same thing, swapping a vrt into my g60. im just collecting parts. i hope it turns out. i may have to ask a couple questions:cool:

:beer::beer:
well anything im able to help with along the way ill be glad to drop some knowledge. good luck with yours man.

Wanted to say hello & do a quick intro, since no one knows me besides a few guys.

whats up, im Brett. 27yrs old... & am from PA originally, currently living in SC. but cant talk about where i am at the moment. (deployment) :sly:

Ive driven mostly honda's for the last 10 yrs. well mostly preludes. as im on my 3 & 4th currently as well as owning this 'rado. This is a blasphemy build since its my first VW. & most ppl didnt think id ever be in a vw. especially with all the vw/honda hate that existed in my hometown of Quakertown, Pa. but as of Aug. Welcome to the dark side my guy  i dont harbor any real hatred for hondas myself. ok i do towards every civic i have ever seen in my entire life...especially the ones with the can mufflers on the back that sound like their doing 50mph when really only doing 15mph while bouncing more than a pogo stick... but thats neither here nor there!

Wanted to say welcome, best of luck with your corrado build (

well thanks man. appreciate the kind words.

I do have a 91 prelude aswell so you were almost in the right generation with the 87 comment. the 97s got a huge facelift coming as soon as i get the balls to drop 2g's on a paint job. new lip kit, new mid wing, headlight eye lids and my meister s1's as soon as i assemble them and get tires.

on a more related note. i just purchased a set of g60 french headlights w/ electric adjusters and a headlight/grill brow from VW_sporting.. a member on here. good dude. shipped fast and very quick with the responses. def. willing to do buisness with him again.

i think i need to buy a new grill though. i believe mine to be a slc grill, judging by how its sticking out as far as it is. i remember reading the headlights stick out further on g60's with slc headlights so this would only make sense..... anyone have thoughts??

Just got on germanautoparts.com & ordered a ton of gaskets and seals and sensors for the rebuild. As well as a starter, steel pan & shift relay lever.

Got some pictures of parts for the build from my buddy who's storing everything for me.

Headlights should be in tomorrow & The eyebrow soon after.

Still a long ways to go. Off the top of my head...

-AN fittings
-Intercooler and misc turbo piping
-turbo manifold pipes. (Making it myself)
-intake manifold
-Fuel pump
-g60 grill
-Clutch
-Batt relocation setup

Etc...

They do, the VR6 lights dont fit quite right on the G60s. that said, im rocking VR6 headlights in my corrado atm becuase i couldnt find G60 lights around. you cant really tell unless you look for it, ya know?

Gotcha. Well the eyebrow that's coming with the headlights is made for use w the g60 headlights and grille so I doubt tht it'll mount over the slc grille.

Headlights showed up today.

Buying a set of 5x100 - 5x114 adapters tonight or tomorrow & just paid for a set of black leather beetle headrests.

I cant wait untill i am out of the service as well. i plan on stripping everything out of my corrado, engine, harness, interior, EVERYTHING. Then doing a complete make over on it, new paint, newer dash conversion, ETC.

on the other hand, i kinda wanna trade my G60 for an SLC, in which case i still wanna completelly strip it and redo the paint, ETC lolol

I hope you guys that are getting out are able to follow through with your plans on building your cars. I've been out for 3 years and all I've been able to do is add to my parts pile while the car sits neglected. Good luck on the build! Maybe it will motivate me to do some work on mine for once and quit buying guns. :peace:

Lol I'm not a gun nut, I'm a car nut. All my time when I'm out will be devoted to either school work or my cars
