Blower Fan stopped working

437 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  n8Dog
Fuse blew for blower fan, I put in a new fuse and as soon as I turned the key to the car the new fuse blew also. This is a new fan about 4-6 months old, the first one lasted for 300,000 kms. The car is a 1986 VW Jetta(engine is from 95' 1.9TD)
It is also getting cold up here in Winnipeg, so any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanx.

it could be a relay. that's what was wrong with my A4 after my turbo timer/boost gauge install. you might see if you can find a vw tech will look at it without having to service it just yet. (this'll hopefully save you time & $$)
Re: Blower Fan stopped working (darkknight)

Hey thanx for the post, is there any easy way, or should I say is there any way I cant test the relay? Or does it need a diagnostics machine?
Re: Blower Fan stopped working (n8Dog)

Just to add a point, maybe someone is interested... there is no relay that controls the blower, a Jetta parts guy told me that. He said that the fan has to be siezed, because if the fan's fuse blew or the fan is dead it would not pop fuses... I tried using a thick gauge wire to boost the amps going to the fan, theoreticallly that would force the fan to spin... no luck... anyways I am at the point where I am going to remove the fan and check it over.
Thanx
