Bluetooth Issues

Just recently, my ability to stream Bluetooth music stopped for no known reason. The ability to connect through Bluetooth and answer and make phone calls still works with no issues but playing pandora or music through the phone no longer works. I have deleted and repaired my phone but the problems still exist. At first I thought the Bluetooth module may be faulty but it doesn't make sense that I can still use the phone features. Any thoughts or suggestions before I hit the dealer?

There are two Bluetooth channels in most vehicles. One for phone calls, and one for media playback. Manufacturers designed it this way so you can connect two devices at the same time. My wife and I often use this feature on long trips. We'll have one of our phones connected to make and receive calls and also connect a tablet through the media channel for playing audiobooks. Because of these two channels it is possible to have a phone be connected through Bluetooth but only have it connected to the phone channel. In such a case audio streaming would not work. This might be what is happening in your case. Go into the device/phone section of the MFD and select Bluetooth. Then select Media and see if your phone is selected as the media playback device. Good Luck.

Spot on. My phone is sync'd to the phone but not the media channel. It won't see my phone as a sync'd Bluetooth media player nor will it find it when searched for. Took it into the dealer and they didn't know so I scheduled an appointment next week. If anyone has any other ideas let me know. Thanks

So took it into the dealer and they said that they believe it is the Bluetooth module. They charged me for the diagnostic and then stated that the module and installation would be around $500. I had them hold off on ordering the module and am having them see if they will cover this under warranty before I make a decision. (I have 37k and the issue started before my 36k). When I got home I also reset the BT module to rule that out. I'm hoping VW will come through for me and replace the unit under warranty but if not I need to look at my options. I would rather purchase and install a new BT module on my own to save money since it's as simple as removing the old unit and installing new. Where should I purchase the unit and which module should I go with? I currently have a 9W7 7P6 035 730F for my RNS-315. If I have to purchase on my own is there a benefit in upgrading to a newer BT unit knowing the limitations of the RNS-315? I think the latest BT Module is the 7P6 035 730P. Any help is appreciated.

I've had the same issue twice. The first time was 2 years ago or so and my fault (installed the iOS 7 beta versions when it first came out). Apple eventually fixed it after a few beta releases.

The second time I had the same problem (+ my radio screen would turn white sometimes) so the dealer replaced the radio and it worked again after that.
