At the end of the 'neck', there is a funnel(reducer) glued to match MAF housing.
Funnel's outer diameter is almost the same as the MAF's connecting flange.
Inner diameter is... around 63mm as I remember.

IMO, BMC attached it because.....
Without the funnel it cannot be connected by a silicon hose, because the neck is too big to be assembled directly to the MAF.
As you know silicon hose is not that elastic, for it is fabric-reinforced.
