Anyone have an opinion on the 325ti compact series from BMW?
It’s interesting that some websites are stating it’s BMW’s line to compete (possible) with the GTI from VW. http://video.cnet.com/cgi-bin/visearch?user=cnet_edms&templatelayer.html&squery=%2BClipID:0+%2BVideoAsset:as022701_1630&ccstart=6200&ccend=160466&videoID=as022701_1630&query=as022701_1630

Personally, I think the BMW it’s much better looking that the Mercedes Coupe. The MB 230 looks to much like a neon whereas the BMW has a stronger masculine look.
Also, the other question, is when would the compact make it to the states - - a local bmw dealer said it is possible to special order it - - would get me the info tommorow.
Thoughts?

i would go for gti. if it does come to the states, it's gonna be more expensive than the gti anyway. just save up and go for the real thing, i.e. 330 or M3.

As a former owner of the previous generation of ti, I would not be interested in this one. My e36/5 ti was a wonderful car, although a little underpowered. IMO, the new one is a horrendously ugly contraption. I would go for the M-B C230K or a BMW e46 coupe instead.
Re: BMW 3 Compact (Kevin Rowley)

I'd take one over a GTI any day of the week, insurance costs notwithstanding. Rear wheel drive, 190-odd HP(i'm too lazy to look at the specs, that figure is from memory), better handling, it's a bmw, etc etc etc. I love the GTI, but not enough to turn down a 325ti, in fact, I've been wanting one for a bit.

2.5L Inline 6.... around 180 hp or so, 175lb-ft... so its pretty good..
Not sure if itll make it to the states tho
Re: BMW 3 Compact (GTI628V)

I'm wondering why there is little repsponse to this post (auto) as there seems to be much more talk about the C230 and I wonder why that is. Is it becuase the c230 is here in the states? Surely this can't be the case as this forum is international.
I happen to dig the way the BMW looks, and love the way the GTI looks, not to sure about the c230, as well, not exactly sure about the new MKV gti that I saw posted somewhere here. Too rounded.
Cheers,

PS, with regard to the C230 and BMW on this forum, if you do enough research on the autos, you'll see that BOTH autos compare themselves to trying to gain VW GTI marketshare, interesting to say the least. Should say something positive about the VW.
Cheers,

PPS. Although I did find one website dedicated to "tuning" the new BMW ti, for the most part there are no hip forums, websites dedicated to them as much as VW.
