I was noticing a rub/pop when taking turns....I looked into my wheel well to see that a boot is torn at the end of the shaft. Not the boot in the wheel well...the one that is at the end of the drive axle. What do I do? I really can't afford more repairs!
I can post pics later if you need a better idea of what I'm talking about.

Re: Boot is torn, please advise... (vwdriver92)

I completely agree. I replaced my front wheel bearing and in the process did something to my inner CV joint. It still works, but I will eventually end up replacing it. I can can an entire used driveshaft for about $150 and put it in myself. A heck of a lot easier and a lot less messy!

If you have a NAPA store around, you should try to get a cv/axle assembly from them. I broke my axle a few months ago and picked one up from Napa for $78. I also bought a hub-puller tool to pop the outer CV joint out of the hub. That cost around $30. The only other tool you would need is the 12-pt (triple square) tool to remove the bolts off of the inner CV joint (connected to differential). I can't remember the exact size though.
You can usually buy a set for fairly cheap ($15-$30)
Granted... if you don't have a Napa, then try all of the other Autoparts stores! The cv/axle assembly came complete, even with a bag of grease to pack into the cv joint! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Hey, thanks for all the replies guys, I love yas. Anyway...I just recalled the old WARRANTY. Woohoo, the CV Joints and Axles and everything under that hood is covered! All I have to pay is my $100 deductable. There is a silver lining... Besides the fact it was 62 degrees here today! Thanks again guys.
