Bought 92 Golf/want to go faster

409 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  William Robert
I just bought my first VW, I've always owned american muscle but deep down inside I've always wanted a VDub. It is a 92 Golf GL with 56,000 miles and I love the car but I want to go faster as usual. Can you give me some suggestion? Cam, head work, exhaust, any info on anything you can think of. Any suppliers that you would recomend for performance, exterior, exhaust, suspension. Like I said I have always owned american muscle so I'm extremely familiar with how to get power handling from them but I am not that familiar with VW's. Thanks for the help and any comments made will be extremely helpful..

Thanks bro! As far as what you had said about the suspension, I have been leaning towards coil overs because of the versatility as I attend rally crosses frequently. I would also like to get into autocross though. I figured that if just lowered and stiffened her up a little bit with a standard performance setup it would be cheaper than the coil overs but it would not allow for the ground clearance that I need for rallycross.
Thanks for the insight on the subject and if you have any comments on this reply please feel free to repost. Oh yea, I am going to try to keep the 8v N/A for a while so if that helps you with engine mod suggestions let me know. Iknow that it is possible to get decent power out of the motors as a guy I rally with is getting about 235hp out of the 8v in his rallycar...

Thanks again! As for the rallycar, I'm not sure on the details but I do know for a fact that it was stroked to a 2.1 or 2.2ltr, Not positive but those number sound right. I know it cost him a lot of money as well as time to get that kind of power. The car is for sale now on http://www.bensrallypage.com but I don't know what he is asking for it. It is very fast and is a blast to drive especially with the dogbox he has in it....
