Re: 'bout to drop some dough... (CrossFireVW)

seems like a lot of money to me!!!! what i would do is take out the tranny myself and give it to someone to rebuild (i know nothing about trannys yet!) and i would install the flywheel, clutch, and headers.....that would save you a couple bucks for sure!!!!!!!
it would be better if you got a break down of the prices....

Parts alone for the rebuild (IIRC in our cars there's like 2 syncros per gear), I mean everything even seals would cost me 600 from my buddy at the stealership. For you parts plus labor I bet you'll see about 2000 +/- 500 for the rebuild. And do what the other say, install whatever you can by yourself. Use some money on tools if you don't have them, then you will have them for future jobs. Working on the car isn't that hard if you can read and comprehend what people say, plus you feel smarter after you do something yourself. Well as long as you do it right that is, anyways I think 3,000 is a lot for what they are doing.

I live in Everett and I'm sure i could be persuaded to help you out if you wanted to tackle most of that yourself...that being said, I would NOT tackle the tranny rebuild yourself, in fact i wouldn't tackle it at all unless it was to put in an LSD....just buy a good used one, or fork out the money for a full rebuild WITH LSD....as far as the header/flywheel and junk goes, if you can turn a wrench you can handle it...and me aside, there's plenty of other helpful people around the PNW that could give you a hand if you need it http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
