Re: brake pad poll (blackylawless)

Stay away from Metal Mongers, they SUCK! I have them on the Topless Wh0re, they are cheap & that is their only advantage.
Hawk HPS are nice. I have them on the Mercedes, they stop really well, but make lot's of dust & squeal a good bit.
Porterfield Ent. Ltd. R-4S Carbon Kevlar pads rock. I have them on my Rabbit. They stop awesome, never Squeal, hardly any dust, last forever, rarely fade, stop well when cold & even better when warm. I've had them on the car for 2 years, ~60,000 miles of daily driving autocrosses, Ice racing, Rallycrosses & all sorts of general abuse & still have at least 1/2 the pad left. http://www.big-mall.com/porterfield-brakes.com/
I have all 3 on cars currently & the Porterfields win, no contest.
I wouldn't bother with slotted rotors, just going to wear out your pads faster. I have regular vented ATE's on all 3 cars & they work just fine.

Re: brake pad poll (Driftin GTI)

I wouldn't use Mintex if they were free. They're ok for a low-dust, non-performance pad (run the redbox on the wife's Passat), but I tried the 1155's (blue) on the race car, and they were junk! I run Hawk Blues on the race car and love them!

quote:

Ferodo's, I run them on all my cars, auto-x, track days, etc. Great product at a great price http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Gotta agree, I have heard alot of positive results from the Ferodo's.
Have yet to get a set. perhaps for the jetta coupe.

Yep I had the mintex red boxes... ugh. they suck. horribly dusty. Now I've got the Porterfields on there and LOVE them. Worth the money.. how often do you replace brakes anyhow? If you can get 60,000 w/ half wear.... that's money well spent. Right Phil?

Hell yeah. I've had the crappy metal Master in the Topless Wh0re since the beginning of June ~14,000 miles. They sucked new & have only gotten worse. If the car is still on the road I figure they will need to be replaced in about 2 months. Let's see, four times the life for twice the price, not bad in my book.
I was a little apprehensive about the price of the Porterfields at first. But now that I've got them & see how well they work & how long they last, I have no problem spending the money. I've got a setsitting in the garage waiting to go on my cousin's Sh*trocco, & will be ordering a set for my sister's Jetta & the other Rabbit in about a month.

Unless you specify your Ferrodo pads, you'll usually get the street compund, not sure what the name of them is. The DS2000's are supposed to be a bit hard for street use, they take a bit longer to warm up. I've gone thru 3 sets of Ferrodo's, regular compound, and they work great.
