OKay, your front brakes are the ones that matter. Getting some new pads and rotors in the rear will make the difference.
TT = 12.3"
2.0/TDI Golf and Jetta = 11"
1.8t/VR6 models = 11.3"
As for the upgrade....going from a VR6 or 1.8t front to a TT front can run anywhere from $350 for basic to into the $1100 range with new calipers and such.
