Brakes let go when almost coming to a stop

Hey, guys, I was wondering what's the cause for this: on my 02 jetta gls, when you step on the brake and the car is coming to a stop, it feels like the brakes will let go a set amout just before the car comes to a complete stop. I thought this is probably to eliminate the "dive" or whatever sensation you get when the car is stopping, but it is really annoying to me. Is this normal???

if you're slamming on the brakes, you might feel something that feels like it's pushing up on your foot, which would be the ABS kicking in. just apply constant pressure. i haven't had that happen to me on dry, or even wet, roads, only on snow and ice. but if it's under normal pressure, i don't know what it could be. if you're under warranty, have the dealer check it out.

Oh, yeah, by the way, this is more obvious at lower speeds and more gradual braking.

I believe that is when it is dropping into 1st gear, mine does that a little sometimes too.

i used to be able to feel that in my old car, an automatic benz... your description reminds me of my auto-driving days... i think i agree with MasterAdkins that it is dropping gears preparing to take off again, but if it does it in tiptronic, then maybe not... experiment a little, then have them check it out...

Have you had a recent brake job? You might have to bleed your brake lines. Air in your brake lines will cause a mushy pedal and that might be your culprit. Anyhow, I would take it into get serviced no matter what. Brake problems are dangerous and we'd hate to see you get into an accident.

Thanks, people. Well, I feel that the brakes are working fine except for this little thing. I'll put it in Tip mode to see if it's caused by the shifting back to the 1st gear. Good luck dubbing!
