What's the best way to break a new set of breaks in on my car? I just installed some ATE powerslot rotos, and some mintex pads (thanks Potterman's!!). But the only breakin advice I got was dont do any heavy breaking for 200 miles.
I have heard of doing like a dozen 60 to 40 runs, but I dont know.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

No what you want to do is just the opposite. Brake hard for a few stops. This prevents the pads from glazing over. Do a search in the 8v tech forum this had been discussed there before.

Re: Breaking the brakes in (Caleb)

I jsut got the same setup on my car. Drove it for about a week without any hard braking whatsoever, left a ton of following distance, didn't speed. After about 100 miles I was sure I was fine so I am back to "normal" driving again and they feel awesome! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Well I am glad it worked out for you but the "proper" break in procedure is to use them hard for about a dozen stops from 60 mph or so. This way they don't glaze over. There is much confusion about this. The same goes for brake fluid and DOT 5. Much confusion and mis-infomation.

Hey whatever I am just saying what has been known to mechanics around the world for decades. Do whatever you want its your car and like I said I am glad it worked. I on the other hand would say that the "master mechanic" was a dumb ass if he recommended that info.

Bedding it brakes should be done as recommended by the manufacturer of the pads (they nearly all state avoid breaking hard), the forced bedding procedure is not usually recommended due to the fact that the brakes can be ruined by doing it wrong.
