While changing my lower control arm today, I got a nasty surprise.
The Sway bar strap that holds it to the Control arm was broken, allowing the
thing to hit the CV.

Well I ordered the strap, but the car would be out of commission until it arrives on Friday.
But after a few minutes of Fussing, cursing my bad luck I had a Eureka moment.

I tore off to the hardware store, and got a 2" center to center SS U-bolt, about the same bolt size as a 10mm bolt for the ball joint. It was about 3 inches long, so I decided to get some SS washer and a couple of lock washers.

Worked like a champ and is probably stronger than the Strap...
Well I ordered the strap for 20 bucks each, and the SS u-bolt only cost me 4.00.
Lesson learned and passed on.

cool.
Thanks, I suppose a 2" muffler clamp would work as well but I don't know if the bolt size is to big to go through the existing holes.

Just got the Car out of alignment, I replaced the control arm as well as the tie-rod.
My Ruff Guestimations on the Tie-rod were only off by 1 degree..... Hey I used a tape measure from the clip on the inner boot to the middle of the old tie-rod, then matched it to the new.....

Got an email from 2 different vendors for that strap, one being MK1Autohaus... They are out of stock... and as they are NLA from dealer my SS Ubolt will remain a tad longer than I wanted... but heck it is still probably stronger than the Original Strap......

Seeing if a Third vendor has it...

Did this setup cause the bushing to get a little wonky? I may do it just to get my car rolling again while I wait for the bracket to arrive.

Nope, works like a charm.
