A friend of mine might be working in europe for 6 months, and i was wondering how difficult it would be for him to bring back a 4 motion.
I seem to remember something about lower import taxes or something if you buy the car and stay in country for 6 months.
has anyone done this?
He lives in Canada will be working in Holland,he is into bikes so is mainly concerened with being able to re-sell it here at a profit.

Re: Buying a 4 Motion Bora (Red Wolf)

Since that car is not sold in NA, he would have to buy one more if he want to bring it here, 1 for him and one for the collision test. Even a honda Civic built for Europe cant be bring here without those test.
Re: Buying a 4 Motion Bora (Red Wolf)

I think you would be better off buying an Audi S4 here in the states. With all the red tape and such would not be worth it.
Re: Buying a 4 Motion Bora (Red Wolf)

You will not be able to bring a non-certified car into NA. Costs of certification and time to get it done would make this prohibitive. Car can't be sold if not certified.

Here's what you do....Go to a junk yard and find a Jetta that was totaled and offer to buy it off of the junk yard. Then take all of the VIN tags off of the vehicle, and send them to your friend in Europe who will then buy jetta that has the same basic specs as the crashed on ein the US..then switch the VIN tags, and voila...a "US" 4 motion bora that can be registered.

Re: Buying a 4 Motion Bora (PerkyVw)

Can someone explain to me how I've seen a euro spec Golf wagon driving around Calgary? This car is most definatly from europe seeing as how you can't even buy them here. The car HAS been registered here so I'm pretty sure that it's possible. I think the rules about importing a "used" car are different than those for importing a new one.

It could be a golf varient. Just swapped front-ends with someone, I don't really know.. That's what I'm guessing though..
Re: Buying a 4 Motion Bora (Smartass)

I know someone who was living in Spain for 4 years, bought a civic. When he came back he came with his europe spec civic. Now he have 2 choice.
1. Bring the civic to the local junk yard to be destroy
2. Put it back in a container to Europe.
Re: Buying a 4 Motion Bora (green01GTI)

You would figure with all the protests about globalization, you'd be able to import a bora.I guess the little guy just oesn't get any breaks
Are all the problems with crash tests etc. because the Bora would be built in a different plant then the NA Jetta's are? aren't the Jetta wagons still built in Germany?
Re: Buying a 4 Motion Bora (Red Wolf)

Go for it. Just bring yer checkbook and 15 years worth of salary with you.

It's my understanding that there is bumper differences, among other such as other safety regulations, like side-bars and all that crap that all the POS american companies always advertise... I tried to import a Mini Cooper (1963) last year... but didn't even bother after inquiring at the dealer I was looking at... would have been SUCH a pain...

A page I found doing a search on google.it is possisble but doesn't look feasible(without switching VIN's)
