What happend if cam followers have been stored improperly for a period of time, say...a year?? They bleed down down, bind up, explode???

well they will bleed down, yes. not sure if that would make them non-useable though.

They will explode 
No seriously,unless they have been stored in a dusty area they will be just fine.
Put them upside down in a can of oil over night and they are good to go.
