Hi all!
Could you please help me on this:
Can I use Monsoon speakers with aftermarket amp? If yes, can I reuse Monsoon wiring from new amp to speakers? Do I connect corresponding tweeter and midrange to one output of an amp?
I'm confused whether speakers itself have passive crossovers built in.
Also, can I reuse power wiring from Monsoon amp for my new amp? My new amp needs 8 gauge wire. Can I also reuse signal wiring? Would it hit my sound quality?
Thanks!

So far I think NO. Meaning, if I wanna get rid of Monsoon amp, I gotta buy crossovers or buy new component speaker system for front and rear.
Can someone confirm this please?
Would it make sense to route CD player to new amp and then new amp to Monsoon, reusing speakers?

Funny. I am in the middle of researching the same thing. I have a New Beetle with a Monsoon. My Monsoon is a little different than the system the Jetta's, Passat's, Golf's, and GTI's get. Where you have 4 tweeters, 2 Sub-Woofers, and 2 Mid-bass woofers - I have 2 tweeters, 2 midrange, 2 Sub-Woofers, and 2 full range in the back seat.
Anyway, the Monsoon amp unit houses the crossovers and amp IC's. So... you will need to find some good passive inline crossovers. This would be for your front door speakers. For the back I am not sure what to tell you. Do you ever have passengers back there? If not then just put a dedicated 2 channel to your Sub-woofers. I have had my eye on some JBL amps that Crutchfield has. They are rated 40 x 4 at 4 ohms or 80 x 4 at 2 ohms. Your subs are 2 ohm. So you would have to back off on the amp a little. I don't have any idea what they are rated at but I am pretty sure not much more than 40 watts RMS.
I would run a seperate power line from the battery. Just a good 8 guage will be more than enough. Remember, these amps are hardly going to be working. But just like you, I think the Monsoon speakers are pretty good. Just the Monsoon amp sucks!
