Can never have too many gauges...

So I got a little carried away... But I do have a question. I had this console laying around. It was in real nice shape, so I decided to use it to do my 3 gauge install. When I went to put it in the car, the cutout on the back (where it meets the dash) is different, and it sticks out about 1.5" more than it should. BUT, all the plastic lines up. The only thing that doesn't is the shift cutout. Does that make sense? Anyway, the circle in the picture is the area in question.
I really like the way it looks with the little ledge. Kinda like a VOTEX cosole. What could this be out of?!?
Edit: Oh yeah, don't rip on me about the red dash insert. It was like that when I bought the car. Anyone got a black one for sale?

I would just paint the one you have black. Actually, if whoever did it hadn't done sucha crappy job, it would be fine red.

exactly

the only thing that I see as a little suspect in the dash layout is the lower switches mounted upsidedown?

vdubturbo~ looks very similar to the Votex, maybe a knockoff?

It's like you read my mind: I was just about to post a question about where to get the gauge mount things to put the gauges on the side of the windsheld like that.
So... where's you get that?
I like the way the mk4 ones look that the guys put on the TDIs and 1.8ts...

well if you want to hear about my gauge consolo I just painted the needles competition orange today and I am thinking to have the console lights either green or blue I am not sure maybe I will make a post

Whoa - that red dash has to GO!
Very rice.
Now, about your center console. I ran into the same problem not too long ago with one that I bought from Shawn Oen (no disrespect to Shawn). Evidently, there are two versions of the A2 center console, one for plain and simple dashes (like you and I evidently have) and another one for those dashes with the knee bars. The console you have (and the one I have) are the latter model for dashes with the knee bars. They are not interchangeable.
Although I bet you could trim the console in the back so that it would sit properly. But I have not done that and I will end up selling the one I have and buying another.
Speaking of gauges, what are all the gauges you have mounted?
Re: Can never have too many gauges... (vdubturbo)

is that tach wired up?
or are the wires hanging for dramatic effect?
sorry, just buggin ya

and what do you mean it doesnt have the shift cutout?

Thanks for all the input guys! Yeah, the red dash is definately going. IWANNAGTI is headed to the boneyard today and told me he'd pick a black one up for me. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
As for the console, I love the way it looks with that extra ledge there, but I need to figure out what to do about the shift boot area not lining up.
Oh, 16v, I have no idea why those switches are like that. I was wondering myself what the PO was doing, but didn't think it was that important to flip them right now since I'll be pulling them to wire them up anyway.
I got the gauges installed last night and today I'm going to wire them up (hopefully). I have a tach, oil press, boost, AFR, h20 temp, oil temp, and fuel press. Gotta keep my investment safe!
The a-pillar pod is from a '95 Civic 2-3door. I wouldn't really recommend it. A couple of texers said it was a decent fit, but I disagree. The civic a-pillar is much wider that ours, making it tough to avoid gaps... The tach doesn't hit the door at all, but I'd rather have it up higher, but it blocks my oil press...

Hmmm.... Well, got the heat cranking in the garage. Back to work for me! Thanks guys! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Can never have too many gauges... (vdubturbo)

so thats 8 gauges, including your speedo, and one of your tachs.
I guess with a turbo motor, you have every reason in the world to know EXACTLY what's going on. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

That was kind of my philosophy. It won't look as dumb once the fugly red thing is replaced and I get a cage in there. That won't be until mid-summer though (the cage, that is).

I bought a kit from Potterman's site. $25. You'll need a dremel, though, b/c you have to cut out the ash-tray. PITA!
