for gassers most people wait til 10k.
For TDI's I did the change at 5k, b/c VW uses crappy oil in TDI's stock.

sure it is....the TDI'ers have synthetic from the factory. Much of us choose to go with a better synthetic.

Well I had my first scheduled maintenance today and had some Mobil 1 5-40 synthetic put in. Dealer even recommended it. So go ahead!!! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I'd like to know too. I looked at the invoice and it said 5w40, but I haven't found any of it in any brand anywhere.

I read that Mobil 1 is no longer "fully" synthetic unless you use 0w-40. Their tri-synthetic formula has a higher pour point than their older 5w-30 and up oils. Their 5w-30 used to meet the specs for use in Mecedes diesels, but the tri-synthetics do not. Only the 0w-40 meets the specs. You might consider Amsoil which has not changed.

Thanks...I was going to use the 0W-40 but I'll take a look and see if I can find Amsoil anywhere around her.
